DAY THREE
Stroll along the Merimbula boardwalk
Merimbula is derived from a local Aboriginal word meaning ‘two lakes’ in reference to the fact Merimbula Lake is located on the southern side of the town and Back Lake on the northern side. And part of the Bega Valley Shire Council’s strategic plan for the Merimbula Boardwalk was to enhance the visitor experience around Indigenous education in honour of the traditional owners of the land, the Yuin First Nations People. The boardwalk curls around mangrove forests, under the grey-green canopy of eucalypts and past oyster farms that are plentiful along this section of Australia’s Oyster Coast.
LUNCH: Broadwater Oysters
A ten-minute drive north takes you to a hidden pearl of the Gourmet Coast and your oyster adventure has begun. Try your hand at shucking with the team at Broadwater Oysters before enjoying a casual ‘tide to table’ lunch on the deck overlooking Pambula Lake.
DINNER: Wheelers Seafood Restaurant and Oyster Bar
You’ve had such a great time; you don’t want to leave. Keep the holiday feeling alive as you step onto the deck at Wheelers for a long seafood lunch, followed by a visit to the gift shop. Soak up the sunny day while the rest of the world is back at work and discover yet another taste of oysters. The airport is close by. Perhaps there’s another flight tomorrow…
